Columbia: Formally announced Jim Engles, Mike Bramucci and Chris Parsons as assistant coaches on Joe Jones’ staff. Engles, who spent the last six seasons with Rider, previously was an assistant at Wagner, and played and graduated from Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA). Bramucci comes from Manhattan where he was an assistant for the past four season, and previously worked with Delaware State and St. Peter’s, and got in a little front-office work for the New Jersey Nets. He’s a graduate of Ramapo College (Mahwah, NJ), where he played on their D-III Final Four team in 1991. Lastly, Parsons is the new volunteer assistant coach, having previously coached as an assistant at New Hampton, New Hampshire, and was captained Hofstra, who had new coach Joe Jones as an assistant.

Iowa State: Wayne Morgan announced the hiring of former North Carolina assistant Fred Quartlebaum to his staff. Quartlebaum was an assistant to former UNC coach Matt Doherty for two seasons at Notre Dame, and two seassons at North Carolina. Morgan also announced that former player Jeff Grayer will be student assistant as he works on his comsumer science degree – Grayer played for the Cyclones from 1984-88. Grayer helped create the Flint (Michigan) Fuze franchise in the CBA, and coached them two years ago. Also, Morgan announced that former administrative assistant Bob Sundvold was promoted assistant coach.

Northern Iowa: Panther head coach Greg McDermott announced the hiring of Jeff Rutter as an assistant coach. Rutter, who replaces Kyle Green after he left for an assistant position at Marquette, was the head coach of Wisconsin-Parkside (D-II) the past seven seasons. Rutter is a graduate of Winona State, and was an assistant at North Dakota State for five seasons prior to accepting the position at UW-Parkside.

Notre Dame: Head coach Mike Brey has announced two assistants. Former Notre Dame point guard Martin Ingelsby has been named coordinator of basketball opertations for the Irish. Ingelsby was an assistant at Wagner last season under Dereck Whittenburg, and played for the Irish from 1997-2001. Ingelsby replaces Rod Balanis, who has been promoted to a full assistant, replacing Anthony Solomon, who left for the head coaching position at St. Bonaventure. Balanis, who was previously an assistant at Colgate, has coaching in his family, as his father was coach of William and Mary in the 1970s. Balanis is a graduate of Georgia Tech, and played for Bobby Cremins in the early 90s.
