Bonnies Round out Staff: St. Bonaventure coach Anthony Solomon rounded out his coaching staff yesterday, hiring John Brannen as an assistant for the Bonnies. Brannen, who joins Jayson Gee and David First on the staff, was formerly an assistant at Eastern Kentucky for the previous three seasons, and worked for Gee at the University of Charleston. As a player, Brannen first played at Morehead State, then transferred to Marshall, where he led the Southern Conference (1996) with 21 points per game and was SoCon Tournament MVP that season.
Jets and Sharks II: Here’s the rundown. Florida governor Jeb Bush said that he backs Miami’s move to the ACC. Florida attorney general Charlie Crist stated that individual states should not go to court to block the ACC’s expansion effort (of course, he went to Wake and Florida State). The ACC, along with Miami and Boston College, are being sued by the five remaining football-playing Big East schools. The remaining Big East presidents have written the ACC presidents urging them to reconsider. The ACC has yet to officially vote on the matter.
Additionally, Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal is demanding expansion documents from the ACC lawyers, or he’ll sue. Virginia attorney general Jerry Kilgore added his name to the Big East Five lawsuit (which might go away if Virginia Tech is moved into the same conference as UVA). Virginia governor Mark Warner had already begged the NCAA to step in and mediate the dispute. Lastly, Duke and North Carolina have been rumored to be reconsidering their vote to expand, further fueled by the Duke faculty issuing a statement to delay the expansion vote, based on the football-only process not taking educational matter into consideration.
