The Morning Dish – Monday, August 11th
Catamount Out: Vermont center Matt Sheftic tore a anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a summer league game last week, and is expected to miss the entire 2003-04 season. Sheftic, a fifth-year senior, averaged 11 points and 6.3 boards last season, a season that saw Vermont win the America East tournament and play in the NCAA for the first time. No word yet on the possibility of a medical redshirt, as Shaftic sat out the 2001-02 season due to personal reasons.
Husky Hoops: Washington wide receiver Charles Frederick has approached head coach Lorenzo Romar about rejoining the Husky basketball program. Frederick was a reserve in 2001-02 under former head coach Bob Bender, and would have redshirt sophomore eligibility in basketball (he has junior eligibility in football). Frederick, who caught 30 passes for 601 yards last season, would follow point guard Nate Robinson, who quit the football team as a starting cornerback to focus on basketball.
