Team: Vanderbilt Position: Forward Year: Senior Size: 6’10”, 250 Stats (per game): 18.4 points / 5.4 rebounds Notes: Third Team All-American, and was a finalist for the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award and the John R. Wooden Award. Named First Team All-SEC as a senior. Completed career as Vanderbilt’s all-time leading scorer with 1,891 points. The Skinny: Productive combo forward didn’t get much notoriety in college due to playing for a lesser-known school, though he became known to the country during the 2004 NCAA Tournament when he led Vanderbilt to the Sweet 16. He puts up good numbers primarily playing outside, possessing an excellent shooting stroke and being a dependable free throw shooter en route to tying for the SEC lead in scoring this past season. He can shoot a little off the dribble, which will help since he typically plays away from the basket and isn’t the most athletic player. He’s not much of a presence inside even with his height, but he could be a niche player for a team with his ability to shoot the ball at his size. Related Hoopville Articles on Matt Freije:
