UConn Stops Syracuse’s Streak:
Charlie Villanueva scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Connecticut held Syracuse

to five points during the final eight minutes, as the Huskies ended the Orange’s 16-game home

winning streak with a 74-66 victory. Hakim Warrick scored 16 points for Syracuse, which held

a 61-56 lead before UConn went on a 9-0 run. Freshman Rudy Gay added 18 points for the

Huskies, winners of three straight.

Cowboys Protect Home Court:
JamesOn Curry and Joey Graham scored 22 points apiece to lead Oklahoma State to a 79-67 win

in the rematch of this season’s Bedlam series. The Cowboys led by just two at the half but

pulled away behind John Lucas III, who scored 12 of his 15 points after the break.

Oklahoma’s Kevin Bookout had 15 points and 10 rebounds in defeat.

Villanova Rolls in Palestra:
The Wildcats built a nine-point lead and withstood St. Joseph’s second-half rally before

pulling away in a 67-52 victory between the Philadelphia foes. Jason Fraser had 14 points

and 14 rebounds for Villanova, which built a 21-point lead midway through the second half

before Pat Carroll found his stroke from the outside and helped bring the Hawks to within

nine. Carroll and Chet Stachitas finished with 16 points apiece for the Hawks.

Utes Win Again:Utah got 19 points from Bryant Markson and 14 points from center

Andrew Bogut in a 57-53 win at UNLV. The Utes won their 15th straight despite 18 points and

six rebounds by the Rebels’ Odartey Blankson.

Berkowitz Returns to Israel:
Marquette point guard Niv Berkowitz, who averaged 1.1 points in seven games this season, has

left the team and will return to Israel to play for his club team, Ramat Hasharon. According

to Marquette head coach Tom Crean, the son of Israeli basketball legend Mickey Berkowitz had

grown extremely homesick since joining the Golden Eagles’ squad less than two months ago.

Coach K A-OK For UNC:
Two days after he collapsed on the sidelines during a timeout and two days before his Blue

Devils take on North Carolina, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski confirmed that he is fit to coach.

Krzyzewski, who attributed Saturday’s spill to a dizzy spell, visited his doctor just to be

sure, and said he will be on the sidelines for Wednesday’s Tobacco Road showdown.

Aldridge, Harris and Paulino Out:
Texas will be without three of its players when it travels to Boulder to take on Colorado.

Freshman center LaMarcus Aldridge, who was averaging 9.9 points before injuring his hip on

Jan. 15, will be out again, as will Kenton Paulino and Sydmill Harris with toe and groin

injuries, respectively.

Tonight’s Menu:

• Unbeaten Illinois travels to Michigan, where the Wolverines need a big win. An upset tonight would qualify.

• Boston College hopes to celebrate its 21st at the expense of the Irish in South

Bend, Ind.

• St. John’s visits Pittsburgh.

• SEC rivals clash when Florida travels to Kentucky.

• Texas and Colorado square off in a Big 12 matchup.
