SEC Day Four

SEC Tournament – Day Four

by Ryan Glenn

11:05 A.M. EST
It has been a long three days of basketball so far, but I must say it has been great. The fans are out already this morning just waiting for the gates to open at twelve. I’m really glad Kentucky and Florida made it to the championship game, because this place will hopefully be one of the best atmospheres I’ve been in.

11:35 A.M.
I must say, the meals they have for media are fantastic. I just enjoyed some country steak, bacon, eggs, grits, breakfast potatoes, and a biscuit and gravy. That was probably one of the best meals I have ever had. I guess I was wrong about when the doors open, as there are already fans piling in.

11:48 A.M.
I just took a stroll around the Georgia Dome. Blues definitely out number Orange, but I still think Florida will manage to get a decent number of fans in here. As I was walking around the dome, I saw some great marketing at the Dippin’ Dots stand. There were two girls selling the frozen product. One was wearing a Kentucky hat, while the other was wearing a Florida hat. That is pure genius!

12:38 P.M.
The dome is almost packed, just twenty-five minutes from game time. These fans are ready to cheer for anything, probably even a jump ball.

12:54 P.M.
The fans have already started chants back and forth. I really hope this game is close so I can see the great emotions from the fans.

1:07 P.M.
I can not even hear myself think right now. It is so loud. Tip-off is now!

1:16 P.M.
With just four minutes gone by, I have to say, It looks like Florida just wants this game more. I think Kentucky is still drained from their intense, overtime game yesterday with LSU.

1:27 P.M.
Kentucky once again pulled all their starters. Florida is up 20-9 and Tubby does not look happy.

1:38 P.M.
Kentucky is trying to make a run, but they still are not playing great defense. On the last Gator possession, Matt Walsh was jumping up and down, because he was so open and ready to launch a three. Florida has also outrebounded the Wildcats 19-8.

2:00 P.M.
The Wildcats are starting to look like their normal selves, but Florida is not going to let them back in this game very easily. Both teams have players on the bench in foul trouble. At the half, Florida is up seven.

2:21 P.M.
During halftime, I had a chance to talk to the CBS announcer. That in itself made today great.

2:43 P.M.
Kentucky came out and played some very good defense and were able to take the lead. Matt Walsh came firing back for the Gators, with two straight threes, to give the lead back to Florida.

3:00 P.M.
Florida has their momentum back. Walsh and Anthony Roberson are just scoring like crazy. Florida is up by 15 with 3:17 left.

3:15 P.M.
Florida has won their first SEC Tournament Championship in a very convincing fashion. Florida finished very strong and won 70-53.

3:35 P.M.
Well the Georgia Dome is almost empty, and I have finished my championship game recap. That means my journey to Atlanta is done. It has been a blast and I would not give this up for anything in the world. So this ends the daily recaps from me… until next year!
