Connecticut: Agents Warn that Coaches Could Leave UConn

UConn Risks Losing Calhoun, Auriemma: The agents for Connecticut head coaches Jim Calhoun and Geno Auriemma have warned the state of Connecticut that they risk losing their vaunted head coaches if the state goes ahead in outlawing outside deals. The state, tightening the screws on statewide corruption after the downfall of former Governor John G. Rowland last year, is examining all high-profile state contracts. The coaches, who have seven national titles between them, risk losing high-income apparel and consulting deals with Nike, according to their agents, and may leave the school to head to different institutions. If the perks are banned, the state may have to chip in additional funds to make up the difference. [5/26/05]
