Putting Life Before Basketball: UTEP guard Giovanni St. Amant announced that he will not return to school this season because he wants to return home to care for his ailing mother. St. Amant would have been a senior in 2005-06 and he one of the few players remaining who has been part of the Miners’ renaissance. UTEP went from 6-24 during St. Amant’s freshman season to two consecutive NCAA appearances. But St. Amant’s mother became ill last year and spent six months in a Long Beach, Calif., hospital.
