Little Rock: Trojans Appeal Dry Arena [10/20/05]

Trojans Appeal Dry Arena: Arkansas – Little Rock will find a way to serve alcohol to its fans if the school gets its way. But for now, the state’s Alcohol Beverage Control has denied the school a liquor permit for its new basketball arena, the Stephens Center. Several groups oppose the proposition of serving alcohol at an on-campus arena. But Arkansas – Little Rock officials contend that the school’s demographics defy stereotypes of alcohol-craving, irresponsible youths causing ruckus. The average Trojan student is 28 years old, and the average season-ticket holder is 50 years old – not exactly newbies to the taste of spirits. The ABC board could address the school’s appeal at its next meeting Nov. 22.
