Northwestern Center’s Career Appears Over: Northwestern senior center Mike Thompson, a former McDonald’s All-American who transferred from Duke, is probably done playing basketball after he left the Wildcats. Doctors recently diagnosed Thompson with arrhythmia, a heart condition that produced flu-like symptoms in recent weeks, causing the 6-10 center to miss the past few games for the Wildcats. Wildcat officials have been reluctant to discuss the issue publicly because of privacy concerns. A much-heralded transfer, Thompson had been slow to adjust to Northwestern’s version of the Princeton offense.
