Minuteman Can’t Muster Academic Success: Massachusetts suspended junior swingman Maurice Maxwell indefinitely because he has not met academic standards. Maxwell starts for the Minutemen and had been a critical contributor last season. Although he still averages nearly 30 minutes per game, Maxwell averages only 6.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Last season, Maxwell averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
One reason for the decrease in production is that Massachusetts runs a deeper rotation this season, so Maxwell plays seven fewer minutes per game compared with last season. But in the four games this season in which Maxwell has played more than 30 minutes, he has not scored in double figures. [1/07/06]
