Cougars Win Without Their Point: Washington State sophomore point guard Derrick Low will miss the next six weeks while he recovers from a broken foot. He hurt the foot during practice last week, breaking the fifth metatarsal on his right foot. In addition to leading the offense as the Cougars’ starting point guard, Low has been the team’s leading scorer, averaging 10.5 points per game.
Despite Low’s absence, Washington State beat the highly ranked Washington Huskies last night on the road. The Cougars, normally a low-scoring squad, put up 78 in a 78-71 upset in which sophomore guard Josh Akognon exploded for 27 points, including hitting 6-of-10 three-point attempts. Akognon figures to see a lot more playing time in Low’s absence. [1/08/06]
