Hobbled Shipp Sunk for Season: UCLA sophomore forward Josh Shipp is shutting it down because of persistent pain in his hip that requires medical attention. Shipp had arthroscopic surgery before the season to repair a torn labrum and remove a bone spur. The healing had been slow, but Shipp returned to play four games. He averaged 11.3 points and 4.8 rebounds for the Bruins, who will miss his contribution. The Bruins will apply for a medical redshirt for Shipp, meaning that this season will not count against his four years of eligibility.
UCLA has dealt with injuries to other key players like Jordan Farmar, Cedric Bozeman and Lorenzo Mata. The rash of injuries puts more pressure on sophomore guard Arron Afflalo to carry the team. He averages nearly 20 points a game and is the only consistently healthy Bruin to average in double figures. [1/10/06]
