Oh how the predictions were wrong.
Ole Miss is off to a 3-0 start with the dominance of junior Dwayne Curtis. He is leading the team in points and rebounds. Predicted to finish fifth in the West Division, the Rebels have looked good in their first three contests and had a big win in Tuscaloosa against Alabama.
LSU is right behind the Rebels in the West with a 2-0 start. Sophomore Tyrus Thomas has become a key part of this team. He is averaging just under than 14 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. He has been explosive on both sides of the floor as well. Against Tennessee, he had nine blocks that helped the Tigers get the win.
Florida is continuing its winning ways as the Gators are still undefeated and are No. 2 in the country. A huge part of their success is from their distributed scoring. All five of their starters are averaging over 12 points a game. It is scary to think that there are four sophomores and one junior in that lineup. Just who is the next challenging opponent for Florida? The powerhouse that is 0-17 Savannah State. It did win a game against a Division II team, but with an RPI of 333, the Gators could probably win this game blind-folded.
Disappointing. That is the word that many Kentucky fans are using to describe their team. The hopes that Randolph Morris would save this team were shattered after two straight losses at home to Vanderbilt and Alabama. Morris has put up nice numbers, but with nobody else doing the same, there is not going to be much change.
This is probably the most crucial week of the season for Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee team. Coming off a tough loss to LSU, the Volunteers head on the road to face Memphis and then come back home to take on Florida. If the Vols win one or two of those games, they will have much more confidence than they would if they lose both.
