Goliathes Felled: College basketball’s three remaining unbeaten teams are no longer chasing perfection. Duke, Florida and Pittsburgh all lost yesterday, ending any premature talk that one of those teams could run the table. As the No. 1 team in the land, Duke’s loss was by far most surprising. But Florida’s loss at Tennessee and Pitt’s loss at St. John’s proved that no team can go on the road in a major conference and assume it will win. Georgetown’s victory against Duke solidified the Big East’s status as the premier conference in the nation, with extraordinary talent at the top — Connecticut and Villanova — and a laundry list of NCAA Tournament-worthy teams behind the top two. The Big East could earn more NCAA Tournament bids than some conferences have teams. [1/22/06]
