Privateer Jumps Ship: New Orleans junior guard Wayne Williams has left the Privateers, saying he doesn’t want to play basketball anymore. He also plans to leave the school, which Hurricane Katrina ravaged shortly before school started last fall. The Privateers will miss Williams’ production because he averaged 15.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. In addition to recovering from Katrina’s devastation, the Privateers have hit hard luck among its scorers. In addition to losing Williams, New Orleans lost leading scorer junior guard Bo McCalebb earlier this season. He had been averaging nearly 20 points per game before breaking multiple bones in his hand against Mississippi State. [1/23/06]
