Oklahoma State: Sutton Recovering

Sutton Recovering: Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton continues to recover from minor injuries that were results of a car accident Friday. Sutton injured his head in the accident and stayed overnight at a Stillwater hospital. He remained at home Saturday when the Cowboys played Texas A&M, losing 46-44 in College Station. Sutton’s status for tonight’s home game against Kansas remains unclear. Sutton’s son and heir apparent in Stillwater, Sean Sutton, will lead the Cowboys if the elder Sutton cannot go.

Update: Sutton Done?: Oklahoma State announced two new developments to this story. First, Sutton has requested to take a leave of absence for the rest of the season because of chronic back and hip pain. He said he contemplated the move before Friday’s car accident, and that reinforced his decision to take care of his health first. Many considered this season to be Sutton’s last as coach of the Cowboys, and he has chosen his son Sean to be his replacement.

Second, Stillwater police announced that Sutton was cited with driving under the influence in the car crash Friday. The school said Sutton’s decision to sit out the rest of the season is independent of the citation. But it does add an element of intrigue to the circumstances.
