Davis Resigns at Indiana: Indiana coach Mike Davis has resigned, effective at the end of the season, whenever that may come. Speculation about Davis’ future has run rampant in the past week, especially when he missed last weekend’s home loss against Iowa because of an illness. Davis has been the subject of much criticism this season, especially from the Hoosier faithful, who have called for his head on a platter. Many loyalists of former coach Bob Knight never truly embraced Davis, even after he led the team to the 2002 championship game against Maryland.
Following a loss at Penn State tonight, the Hoosiers’ NCAA Tournament prospects are becoming doubtful. Davis said within the past week that the negativity surrounding the Hoosier program has taken its toll on the team and himself. At 13-9, the Hoosiers are still in the thick of the NCAA Tournament hunt, but they are fading at the wrong time of the year. With Davis’ tenure at Indiana clearly coming to an end, the team must dig deep to remain competitive for the balance of the season. [2/15/06]
