Waters on the Ropes at Rutgers: Rutgers coach Gary Waters missed the team’s game against Marquette Sunday because he could not catch a flight out of Ohio to New Jersey during the weekend snowstorm that blasted the Northeast. Waters attended a ceremony at Kent State, where he led the Golden Flashes to the Elite Eight, to honor his success at the school. Waters said he had Rutgers’ approval to attend the ceremony, but the school’s athletic director has not publicly confirmed that. With Rutgers fading in Big East play, speculation is starting to boil that Waters won’t hold the Scarlet Knight job much longer. In Waters’ absence, assistant Fred Hill led the team to a 91-84 victory against Marquette. Waters led the team to a 54-51 home loss to St. John’s Wednesday. The recent struggles could become the straw the breaks the camel’s back in Piscataway. [2/17/06]
