Independent Inquiry Seeks Truth at Mizzou: Missouri system president Elson Floyd has initiated an independent investigation of the circumstances that led to former Missouri coach Quin Snyder’s decision to resign. Snyder officially quit Feb. 14, not long after he had said he would finish the season on the Tiger sidelines. But Snyder said he received word via a messenger that athletic director Mike Alden intended to fire Snyder if he did not resign. And nothing Snyder did in the final month would change his opinion. Snyder also said he was given an option to resign or be fired. So he chose the former.
At first, Alden denied Snyder’s version of events. But now, he’s wavering a bit and said he did send an assistant, Gary Link, to talk to Snyder following the team’s blowout loss to Baylor. Missouri curators said they wanted outside investigators to determine the flow of information from Alden’s office to Snyder to determine if the school strong-armed Snyder out of the job. A former U.S. Attorney, Jean Paul Bradshaw, and a local newspaper publisher, Dalton Wright, will lead the investigation. [2/21/06]
