Southern Conference Tournament: No. 5 Chattanooga beat No. 8 Appalachian State 78-75 to move within a game of returning to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. The Mocs will play No. 3 Davidson Sunday. In a game of runs, Chattanooga overcame a slow start with a 17-2 run and built a double-digit second-half lead. The Mocs withstood a late rally by Appalachian State to hold on for the victory.
Meanwhile, Davidson beat No. 2 Elon 65-58 to get to the Southern Conference Championship game. Senior forward Ian Johnson hit five three-pointers as part of his game-high 23 points. One of those three-pointers gave Davidson the lead for good early in the first half as the Wildcats built a double-digit lead and then held back the Phoenix’s second-half comeback. [3/04/06]
