Big Sky Conference Tournament: No. 5 Sacramento State ended a five-game losing streak with a 71-70 upset of No. 4 Montana State. Senior guard DaShawn Freeman drained four three throws in the last 11 seconds to send the Hornets to a tight victory and a semifinal match up with No. 1 Northern Arizona. Both teams clawed for the lead in the final minutes, but Sacramento State had the answers to upset the host Bobcats.
Freshman guard Rodney Stuckey continued his magnificent season at No. 3 Eastern Washington, leading the Eagles to an 81-75 victory against No. 6 Portland State in the quarterfinals. Stuckey dominated the Vikings by scoring 38 points, which is exceptional even for the Big Sky’s most valuable player. In only his first year, Stuckey averages 23.6 points per game and promises to lead Eastern Washington to Big Sky glory sometime in the near future. The next step for the Eagles is a semifinal clash with No. 2 Montana Tuesday. [3/04/06]
