Mid-Continent Conference Tournament: No. 4 Valparaiso advanced to the semifinals with a 77-66 win against No. 5 Southern Utah. The Crusaders will play No. 1 Oral Roberts Monday in an attempt to avenge a nine-point loss to the Golden Eagles last week. Senior forward Dan Oppland led Valparaiso with 17 points and nine rebounds against Southern Utah.
In the second game of the day, a pair of prolific scorers battled, and No. 6 Chicago State pulled away for a 75-66 upset against No. 3 Missouri – Kansas City. Junior guard Royce Parran led the Cougars with 30 points in the win, including 19 points on 23 attempts from the free throw line. Junior forward Dee Ayuba was a frequent point producer for the Kangaroos with 24 points. But he was the only Kangaroo to reach double figures in scoring, which doomed UMKC. The Cougars will play No. 2 IUPUI in the semifinals Monday.
