Mid-American Conference Tournament: No. 5 Ohio blasted No. 12 Central Michigan 82-53 to advance to the quarterfinals against No. 4 Miami, Ohio. Senior guard Mychal Green led the Bobcats with 25 points, including a career-high seven three-pointers. He scored 19 points in the first half as the Bobcats jumped out to a 28-7 lead and cruised the rest of the way.
No. 6 Western Michigan slipped past in-state rival No. 11 Eastern Michigan 60-55 to set up a quarterfinal match up against No. 3 Akron. Senior guard Brian Snider led the Broncos with 21 points as Western Michigan overcame a 14-point deficit with a couple of long runs in the second half.
No. 7 Toledo notched the second of two blowouts in the opening round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament by drubbing No. 10 Bowling Green 77-52. Junior guard put up 23 points for the Rockets, who move on to play No.2 Northern Illinois in the quarterfinals Thursday.
No. 8 Buffalo beat No. 9 Ball State 80-72 to earn the right to play No. 1 Kent State in the quarterfinals Thursday. Senior guard Calvin Cage led the Bulls with 30 points, including eight straight free throws with less than four minutes remaining to stave off Ball State’s rally. Junior forward Skip Mills was sensational for the Cardinals, scoring a career-high 38 points in the loss. [3/06/06]
