Big West Conference Tournament: No. 5 UC – Santa Barbara blasted No. 8 UC – Riverside 76-44 by defensively suffocating the Highlanders. The Gauchos held Riverside to 27 percent shooting from the field and forced 25 turnovers. Senior forward Cameron Goettsche blocked a career-high six shots in addition to scoring 11 points. The Gauchos will play No. 4 Cal Poly in the quarterfinals Thursday.
No. 6 Cal State Fullerton beat No. 7 Cal State Northridge 73-63 to advance to the quarterfinals against No. 3 Long Beach State. Junior forward Justin Burns led the Tians with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and two other Cal State Fullerton players scored at least 15 points. [3/08/06]
