Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament: This year’s Cinderella could be No. 7 Arkansas – Pine Bluff, which upset No. 3 Grambling State 61-49. The win is the Golden Lions’ second victory against a higher seed in two days. Senior guard Martese Coleman led Arkansas – Pine Bluff with 15 points, one of two Golden Lions to score in double figures. They will play No. 1 Southern in the championship game Saturday.
Southern advanced to the championship game after slipping past No. 5 Jackson State 66-59. Senior guard Christopher Alexander led the Jaguars with 16 points, and senior forward Peter Cipriano picked up a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Jaguars beat Arkansas – Pine Bluff twice this season but only by a combined five points. [3/10/06]
