Cyclones Choose McDermott: Iowa State robbed instate rival Northern Iowa to fill the coaching position in Ames by hiring Panther coach Greg McDermott. McDermott opted to jump from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big 12, taking the position formerly held by Wayne Morgan. Iowa State fired Morgan after the team finished 16-14 and failed to reach the NCAA Tournament. McDermott has led Northern Iowa to the tournament three consecutive seasons, including this year when the Panthers lost to Georgetown. McDermott finished five seasons at Northern Iowa with a 90-63 record. For a complete list of coaches who are switching address, check out Hoopville’s list of 2006 coaching changes. [3/21/06]
