Hill Becomes Top Knight: Rutgers officials promoted assistant coach Fred Hill to the Scarlet Knights’ head coaching position, replacing Gary Waters, who resigned a few weeks ago. Rutgers finished 19-14 this season, but the team needed to at least reach the NCAA Tournament to save Waters’ job. Although the team won a game in the NIT, Waters’ fate was sealed earlier in the season, especially after he missed a game while trapped in Ohio. He had returned to Kent State for a ceremony that honored his role in leading the Golden Flashes to the Elite Eight, but he couldn’t get back to New Jersey because of a snowstorm. [3/28/06]
