Doherty Movin’ on Up: Matt Doherty is quickly working his way back into the realm of major conference coaches. Florida Atlantic’s first year coach and the former North Carolina coach has accepted the Southern Methodist position. In one season with the Owls, Doherty led Florida Atlantic to a 15-13 record and finished near the top of the Atlantic Sun despite early season predictions that placed them near the bottom of the conference. He coached North Carolina for three up-and-down seasons, in which the Tar Heels reached No. 1 in the polls in 2001 and finished with an 8-20 record in 2002. Doherty replaces Jimmy Tubbs at SMU, which fired Tubbs after an NCAA investigation revealed several violations. [4/23/06]
