Beilein and Lavin Stay out of No Man’s Land: The North Carolina State coaching search continues without any end in sight. The Wolfpack’s latest targets — Steve Lavin and John Beilein — announced Wednesday that they have no intention of leaving their current employers. Lavin, a former UCLA coach, works as a TV analyst at ESPN. Beilein is West Virginia’s coach and a rising star in the profession. The Wolfpack’s $2 million per year offer couldn’t tempt either man to Raleigh, which suddenly has become a dead zone. The school whiffed on attempts to attract Texas’ Rick Barnes and Memphis’ John Calipari to the ACC. Unlike its rivals North Carolina and Duke, North Carolina State does not have prominent alumni matriculating in other coaching jobs, waiting for an opportunity to step into the limelight. [4/27/06]
