Downey Goes Home: Former Cincinnati freshman guard Devan Downey is going back home to South Carolina. Downey will transfer to the Gamecocks, which he verbally disrespected shortly before the Bearcats’ loss to South Carolina in the NIT. Despite his former opinions, Downey has decided to join Dave Odom’s renaissance at South Carolina and take his 11.9 points and 4.3 assists per game to the South. Downey’s arrival may disappoint former Georgia Tech point guard Zam Fredrick, who is also in the midst of transferring. He nearly transferred to South Carolina last season. Now he’s leaving in search of more playing time, which he wouldn’t get playing behind Downey in 2007-08. [5/03/06]
