Romar to Lead U.S. Under-18 Team: Washington coach Lorenzo Romar was selected by USA Basketball to be the head coach of the men’s Under-18 team in this summer’s qualification
tournament for the 2007 FIBA world championships. Georgia Tech’s Paul Hewitt and DePaul’s Jerry Wainwright will be his assistants. The tournament will run from June 28 – July 2 in San Antonio. Romar is 84-42 in his four seasons at Washington, reaching the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons. The team will be selected by a committee, led by Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim, during a try-out in San Antonio June 16-18. [5/14/06]
