49ers Grab Seasoned Assistant: The apprentice has become the teacher at Long Beach State as 49er coach Larry Reynolds has hired his former boss, John Masi, as an assistant coach. Reynolds and Masi worked together for 16 years at UC – Riverside when Masi led the program and Reynolds worked as his assistant. Masi coached Riverside for 26 years and registered a 462-269 record. He was out of Division I coaching last season while he worked as a volunteer coach at Cal State San Bernardino and a consultant to a junior college. [6/02/06]
