Pettis Sentenced for Life: Former Fresno State Bulldog Terry Pettis will serve a mandatory life sentence after a jury convicted him of first-degree murder and armed robbery. Pettis shot and killed a woman while trying to rob her drug-dealing boyfriend. Pettis tried to rob him of drugs while they were in their car, and the gun discharged when the woman tried to speed away. Pettis was a promising Fresno State freshman before running into trouble with the law on a charge of vandalism and battery. He violated his parole in 2004, earning a suspension and time in jail.
