The Logo to Become The Doctor: West Virginia legend Jerry West, who had his No. 44 jersey retired last season, has now received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater. West, who also gave WVU’s 137th commencement address, led the Mountaineers to their only NCAA finals appearance in 1960, and according to the AP, still holds school records in points scored (2,309), rebounds (1,240) and four other categories. West’s son, Johnnie, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at West Virginia next season. [6/09/06]
