Tournament Expansion Gets No Love: The committees responsible for the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball championships met in Orlando, Fla., last week to discuss a possible expansion plan, among other things. Despite the support of some coaches — especially ones from teams that just missed the NCAA Tournament — the committee members opted to end the debate early. They considered the effects that a larger tournament would have on fan support, TV ratings and scheduling. Although the discussions did not go anywhere this year, the precedent of even considering expansion lends hope to those who want to see anywhere from one or two more teams to another 63 added to the field.
