Former Arizona State Star Joins Dad at UNLV: It was only a matter of time before coaches learned how to use Proposal No. 2005-54, which was passed into NCAA legislation in late April. The rule enables players with a fifth year of eligibility to transfer immediately without penalty provided they have graduated with a bachelor’s degree. That rule will allow UNLV coach Lon Kruger to coach his son Kevin, who was the top player at Arizona State last season, at UNLV for the 2006-07 season. The controversial rule will allow Kruger to transfer and play immediately because he earned his undergraduate degree in four years while maintaining a year of eligibility. Normally, a player who transfers from one Division I school to another must sit one year.
As a Pac-10 honorable mention performer, Kruger led the Sun Devils in scoring at 15 points per game. [7/16/06]
