Grant Has Hearing Postponed: An immigration hearing for North Carolina State’s Gavin Grant, in a case that could ultimately end in his deportation to Jamaica, has been postponed until September, according to a federal spokeswoman. Federal officials contend that Grant illegally came to the United States from Jamaica 12 years ago. An immigration court was to hold a preliminary hearing in the case in Atlanta. A hearing into the merits of Grant’s arguments for staying in the United States, including witnesses testifying on his behalf, will be held sometime after the preliminary hearing. Grant could leave the United States voluntarily and apply to return or appeal to stay. Grant, who’s married to his high school sweetheart, attended St. Raymond’s High School in New York. He wants to become a permanent citizen of the United States and continue playing basketball for the Wolfpack. The 6-7 swingman averaged 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last season, good for second on the team in rebounding.
