Murphy Joins Northeastern Staff: Thomas Murphy, who coached for 34 years at Hamilton College in New York, has been named an assistant coach at Northeastern. Bill Coen, Northeastern’s coach, played for Murphy at Hamilton, as did Northeastern assistant Jim McCarthy. Coen was one of Murphy’s first recruits at Hamilton and gave Coen his first coaching job. Coen is more than happy to return the favor. In his 34 years at Hamilton, Murphy assembled a 602-263 record, led the Continentals to 30 postseason appearances, and was National Coach of the Year in 1979. He also served as the school’s athletic director for 23 years. [9/19/06]
