O’Brien Seeks More: Only a week after Ohio State appealed a court decision awarding him $2.4 million, Jim O’Brien is asking for more. The former Buckeye coach said he’s planning to appeal a court decision awarding him $2.4 million and ask for an additional $1.3 million. Ohio State has already filed an appeal of its own to overturn the original ruling. In a statement released by his attorney, O’Brien said he is appealing only because Ohio State appealed the original decision first.
The Ohio Court of Claims ruled last month that O’Brien was improperly fired in 2004 because the university did not follow the terms of his contract in terminating him. The university fired O’Brien after learning he had broken NCAA bylaws by giving $6,000 to a recruit.
