Toledo: Toledo’s Charalambous Dies During Conditioning Drill

Toledo’s Charalambous Dies During Conditioning Drill: Toledo’s Haris Charalambous collapsed and died Oct. 9 during a conditioning drill at practice. He was 21.

The school said that he was treated by athletic trainers, who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, until medical emergency personnel arrived in response to a 911 call. Charalambous, a native of England, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died soon after. The cause of death is still unknown.

“This is a tragic and unexpected situation,” Lawrence Burns said, Toledo’s vice president for enrollment services, marking and communications. “This has been a shock to our entire athletic program and university.”
