Southern Conference Tournament Opening Round: In the first day of Southern Conference Tournament action, the better seeds held serve. No. 6 Georgia Southern handed No. 11 Citadel a 62-46 loss and will play No. 3 College of Charleston. The Eagles held the Bulldogs to only 20 points in the first half as the Citadel shot only 30 percent from the field in the game.
No. 7 Western Carolina held off a valiant effort from No. 10 Elon to win 69-65 and move forward to the quarterfinals against No. 2 Appalachian State. In the other opening round game, No. 8 Chattanooga ended No. 9 Wofford’s season in a 64-55 victory. [2/28/07]
