West Coast Conference Tournament Opening Round: No. 5 San Diego opened the West Coast Conference Tournament with a 95-82 against No. 8 Pepperdine. Ross DeRogatis led the Toreros with 22 points to guide San Diego to the quarterfinals and a date with No. 4 San Francisco Saturday. San Diego led Pepperdine by double digits for most of the game as the Waves never seriously challenged the Toreros.
In the other opening round game, No. 7 Portland upset No. 6 Loyola Marymount 55-41 to advance to the quarterfinals against No. 3 St. Mary’s. The Pilots won their first West Coast Conference Tournament game since 1996 by stifling the Lions’ offense. Loyola Marymount shot only 27.8 percent from the field.
