West Coast Conference Tournament Semifinals: No. 1 Gonzaga is a game away from returning to the NCAA Tournament after beating No. 5 San Diego 88-70 in the West Coast Conference Tournament semifinals. David Pendergraft scored 22 points to lead Gonzaga, which established a 40-26 halftime lead and never let the Toreros come closer than 11 points the rest of the way. Gonzaga will play No. 2 Santa Clara in the championship. The Broncos corralled No. 3 St. Mary’s 63-47. Santa Clara erased a first-half hole by finishing the half with a 9-0 run to lead 33-28. The Broncos grinded down St. Mary’s in the second half. John Bryant led the defensive-minded Broncos with 14 points. [3/04/07]
