Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Semifinals: No. 1 Virginia Commonwealth advances to the Colonial Athletic Association championship after taking out No. 4 Drexel 63-56. In a game of runs, the Rams had big ones to end the first half and start the second half to build an 18-point lead. Drexel cut the lead to five points when VCU rested its starters, but the Rams responded to rebuild a double-digit lead. Jesse Pellot-Rosa led VCU with 16 points. The Rams will play No. 6 George Mason in the championship game. Don’t look now, but the Patriots are reprising last year’s improbable post-season run. George Mason upset No. 2 Old Dominion 79-63 to move into the finals. Shooting less than 30 percent from the field in the first half, the Monarchs fell behind by 15 at halftime, and George Mason extended the lead to 22 early in the second half. Dre Smith led the Patriots with 19 points. [3/04/07]
