West Coast Conference Tournament Championship: No. 1 Gonzaga avoided at-large angst by claiming the West Coast Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after the Bulldogs knocked off No. 2 Santa Clara 77-68. The championship possibly marked the final game for Santa Clara coach Dick Davey, who is retiring at season’s end. The Broncos are a legitimate NIT candidate. Senior guard Derek Raivio ensured that Gonzaga is a legit NCAA Tournament team by scoring 28 points to lead the Bulldogs. [3/05/07]
