Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Opening Round: No. 7 Hampton took care of business against No. 10 Howard in the opening round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament, winning 76-61. Matthew Pilgrim led the Pirates with 21 points. The Pirates hit 60 percent of their field goal attempts to bury Howard. Hampton will play No. 2 Florida A&M in the quarterfinals.
No. 8 Coppin State shut down No. 9 Bethune-Cookman 56-44 in the opening round to advance to the quarterfinals, where No. 1 Delaware State awaits. Tywain McKee led the Eagles with 19 points, helping Coppin State overcome a better shooting night by Bethune-Cookman. But the Wildcats were terrible at the free throw line, making only 9-of-21 attempts. [3/06/07]
