Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament: No. 6 Norfolk State won an opening round game against No. 11 Maryland – Eastern Shore 81-70. Junior Tony Murphy scored 24 points to lead the Spartans, who will play No. 3 North Carolina A&T in the quarterfinals. The Shore Hawks’ loss spoiled a sensational 30-point effort by sophomore guard Ed Tyson. No. 1 Delaware State beat No. 8 Coppin State 68-49 in the first MEAC quarterfinal game. The defensive-minded Hornets held Coppin State to 40 percent shooting from the field and allowed only one player to score in double figures. Jahsha Bluntt led Delaware State with 19 points. The Hornets will play the winner of No. 4 Morgan State and No. 5 South Carolina State in the semifinals. No. 2 Florida A&M won the other quarterfinal of the night 61-58 against No. 7 Hampton. Jon Mason led the Rattlers with 12 points, coming off the bench to deliver a game-winning performance. Florida A&M built a six-point lead in the final minute to stave off Hampton’s comeback attempt.
