Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals: No. 4 Miami, Ohio, pulled off a 58-53 victory against No. 1 Toledo to earn a spot in the Mid-American Conference championship game. The RedHawks got 22 points from Tim Pollitz, who was nearly perfect. Pollitz hit 11-of-12 field goal attempts, including three straight baskets to extend a 43-42 second-half lead to seven. Miami held off the Rockets’ late rally to send the MAC’s regular-season champ to the NIT.
No. 2 Akron will play for the MAC championship after beating No. 3 Kent State 61-54. Jeremiah Wood helped the Zips bounce back from a 14-point halftime hole by scoring 13 points in the second half. Akron went on a 14-0 run to end the Golden Flashes’ lead and power ahead. Wood finished with 19 points, his best effort of the season. [3/09/07]
