Championship Week 2006
Southeastern Conference Tournament Semifinals: After being down one at halftime, No. 3W Arkansas went on a 13-3 run to open the second half as the Razorbacks earned a spot in the SEC championship game with an 81-72 win over No. 1W Mississippi State. Charles Thomas and Sonny Weems each had a game-high 18 points, and Thomas finished with 18 rebounds. Gary Ervin, who transferred from Mississippi State, was right behind his teammates with 15. The Bulldogs had opportunities to get themselves back into the game with free throws, but shot just 20 percent (2-of-10) from the line in the second half. Their leading scorers coming into the game, Jamont Gordon and Charles Rhodes, shot a combined 3-of-18 in the loss.

No. 1E Florida continued their dominance in the tournament and added to their case for a No. 1 seed with an 80-59 win against No.2W Ole Miss. Once again, the Gators jumped out to an early lead with a 13-2 run to start the game and did not look back. The Rebels could not match the Gators’ 48 percent shooting as they struggled, shooting just 32 percent. Corey Brewer had a game-high 22 points and Lee Humphrey added 17, including five three-pointers. Clarence Sanders, the only Rebel in double digits, finished with 21. [3/10/07]
